Peppermint essential oil is a very useful oil to have around the home to assist with; stomach complaints (indigestion, wind and diarrhoea), reduces inflammation, fever, colds and flu, fatigue, nausea, helps eliminate pests (snails, mice, ants), room deodorizer (especially strong smells like paint) and peppermint oil also helps arthritis and sore feet. 10 ml
Peppermint essential oil is really helpful around the home. Here are some of the ways I use it around my home:
Stomach complaints
- Rub hands together to create warmth, place 4 drops into hands and rub together. Massage in a circular motion over stomach and around navel to relieve indigestion, flatulence, travel sickness and diarrhea.
- Add one drop of Peppermint essential oil to hot water to aid in digestion and relieve heartburn.
- Inhale the fragrance of Peppermint essential oil to curb the appetite and lessen the impulse to overeat.
- Add one drop to hot water to help remove wind.
Inflammation
- add 2-4 drops of Peppermint essential oil to carrier oil (cooking oil is okay) and massage into injured area to reduce inflammation.
- Add 2-4 drops of Peppermint essential oil to carrier oil (cooking oil is okay) and massage into joints to relieve arthritis or tendonitis pain.
Colds and Flu
- Place boiling water into heatproof bowl, place 4-8 drops of Peppermint essential oil into bowl and take deep breaths to relieve congestion, sinusitis, bronchitis, cough, asthma and heavy head.
- Add 2-4 drops of Peppermint essential oil to carrier oil (cooking oil is okay) and massage into chest to remove nasal and respiratory congestion.
- Rub 4-6 drops of Peppermint oil on the bottoms of the feet to reduce fever.
- Place a drop of Peppermint essential oil onto finger and rub into temples. If headache is at front of head, rub into middle of brow as well. If headache is at back of head, rub into nape of neck as well.
Fatigue
- Open bottle of Peppermint essential oil and inhale deeply to boost your mood and reduce fatigue.
- Add Peppermint essential oil to oil burner while studying to improve concentration and accuracy.
- Inhale Peppermint oil while taking a test to improve recall and concentration.
Pests
- Place 2-4 drops of Peppermint essential oil on a cotton ball and place along the path (or point of entry) to deter mice, cockroaches, snails etc...
- Add a few drops of Peppermint essential oil to letterbox to deter snails and spiders from co-habituating with your letters.
- Add 4-5 drops of Peppermint essential oil to 1 litre of water and spray plants to kill aphids.
Room deodorizer
- Pour approx half a 10-15ml bottle of Peppermint essential oil into a 10 litre can of paint to dispel the fumes (adjust according to size of paint can).
- Add 8-12 drops into spray bottle filled with water, shake the mixture and lightly spray on bedding, curtains, or even carpets for a room deodorizer.
- Add 8-12 drops into spray bottle filled with water and spray into shoes for smelly shoes.
Sore feet
- Mix 5-10 drops of Peppermint essential oil with a carrier oil (cooking oil is okay) and place into a warm footbath to relieve sore feet. Keep water agitated while soaking feet.
